LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is lit up blue ahead of a charitable run supporting Nevada’s largest industry.

Tuesday morning, Clark County Commission Chairman Michael Naft hosted a special ceremony at the sign in honor of the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation’s fifth annual Great Chef Run. The run raises money for hospitality scholarships benefiting Nevada students.

Naft said the hospitality industry is the backbone of the valley’s economy.

“The Great Chef Run celebrates the next generation of professionals that will continue to make Southern Nevada thrive while supporting student scholarships,” Naft said.

The chair of the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation, David Bowman, said the run has helped the foundation grant more than $150,000 in scholarships over the past four years.

“We could not have done that without the incredible support of a vast array of local businesses, Clark County, and all the thousands of participants who get up early, dress as chefs, and run, jog, or walk 5k to raise funds for our industry,” Bowman said.

The Great Chef Run, set for Sunday, March 21, is a 5K run/walk. The event also features music by local DJ’s and food made by valley chefs.

The race is open to the public. You can learn more and register here.
