LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Driving around the valley Wednesday, you’ll notice diesel prices hovering between $6.49 and $7.
As diesel prices spike across the country, Nevada is seeing an all-time high for prices as well. Nevada’s average price sits at $6.84, which is 24 cents higher than last week and 31 cents above the national average of $6.53, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

In response to the price hike, Republican lawmakers and President Donald Trump have floated the idea of a temporary ban on diesel exports to help conserve. However, economists have warned that while this could appear to be a fix at first, it’s a decision that could backfire by driving energy prices even higher and damaging America’s reputation as a reliable energy producer.
FOX5 spoke with a local tow truck drivers who wanted to remain anonymous at local gas stations. One driver told us that if diesel prices continue going up, independent contractors who drive big rigs might strike in order to get their companies to pay for gas.
Multiple drivers told FOX5 that they fear their wages would not be able to keep up otherwise.
