LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Reimagine Boulder Highway project still has a long way to go before it is officially completed, and the construction is impacting businesses.
The project will turn the corridor into a reimagined roadway with a center bus lane, more lighting, and more pedestrian-friendly features.

Navigating through the construction has proven difficult for drivers.
“Just like anything, I avoid it. There’s construction on Boulder Highway; everybody avoids construction, don’t they?” said Tom Stampahar, a driver.
Businesses struggle with reduced foot traffic
Businesses cannot avoid the construction and are trying to keep their doors open.
“A lot of people have been avoiding this area,” said Reuben Ibarra, general manager of Sunset Tavern.
Ibarra said foot traffic is down 30% since construction began in July 2024.
“A lot of people have just decided to go to other bars and not come to our bar. It’s more accessible in other areas,” Ibarra said.
This week, more road closures are expected from Pioneer to Frontage Road.
Project budget increases
The city of Henderson said the project budget has increased from the original $145 million.
“There has been some additional work requested from RTC, and RTC has provided those funds for the work they requested. Our original budget was $145 million. That has gone up,” a city of Henderson representative said.
Most of the budget came from federal funding.
$80 million came from federal funding, $30 million came from the city of Henderson, and the rest was from flood control and other property owners nearby.
The more than 7-mile project will not be done until August 2027.
Until then, businesses say they have no choice but to adjust.
