LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A local fundraiser is bringing the community together for “Pickleball for a Purpose” with proceeds going to help a combat-wounded U.S. Air Force veteran and his family.
The Veteran Social Club is hosting a pickleball event today at 2 p.m. at Chicken N Pickle to raise $50,000 for Master Sgt. Christopher “Aggie” Aguilera. Organizers say the money will help fund the construction of a perimeter wall and iron gates around Aguilera’s home, and provide family and career counseling.
The wall and gates would fully enclose the yard, creating a safer space for Aguilera’s family and a future service K-9, while keeping the property ADA-compliant and aligned with his accessibility needs.
Aguilera was critically injured during a military operation in Afghanistan in 2010 when his helicopter was shot down while responding to a medical evacuation request. He survived and later underwent more than 20 surgeries, including the partial amputation of his right foot. After regaining his flying status, Aguilera served another tour where complications ultimately led to the amputation of his lower left leg.
Organizers say the fundraiser helps ensure his home remains fully accessible as Aguilera and his wife raise their son.
The pickleball tournament is open to all skill levels. Tickets are $40 for the general public, and admission is free for military veterans, spouses, and children. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. You can also donate if you cannot make the event. All information can be found here.
