HENDERSON (FOX5) — The City of Henderson Animal Protection Services (APS) removed dozens of animals from a residence after finding unsafe, unsanitary conditions.

According to officials, APS officers found about 40 animals living at the home, located near Galleria Drive and Eastgate Road, in what they described as neglectful, unsanitary conditions.

The animals included dogs, cats, turtles, birds, ferrets and other species. APS officers would go on to take custody of the animals and transported them to the City of Henderson Animal Protection facility.

According to APS, city veterinary staff immediately began medical evaluations and treatment. Several animals required urgent care for various conditions, including contagious diseases, and all are being stabilized and closely monitored.

Officials said a nonprofit animal organization was operating out of the home in violation of city ordinances. The unidentified person responsible is slated to be cited under local ordinances, according to the city.

The seizure comes just weeks after 35 dogs were removed from a Working Dogs of Nevada facility near Tenaya Way and Lake Mead Boulevard, in response to animal cruelty concerns.

The investigation in Henderson remains ongoing, and officials noted the total number of animals involved could change as more information becomes available.

Once medically cleared, the animals will be made available for adoption through the city shelter or partner rescue groups, city officials add.
