LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Elementary school students in Las Vegas still have a chance to enter the annual Mojave Max emergence contest.

The desert tortoise is still brumating at the Springs Preserve, according to a Clark County social media post.

Officials say he is only two weeks away from his latest emergence on record.

Mojave Max emerged on May 8, 2025 which was his latest emergence to date.

Teachers and students can still submit their guesses on when Mojave Max will emerge in 2026.

Clark County has been hosting the contest for at least 25 years
