LOGANDALE, Nev. (FOX5) — The U.S. Postal Service will host a passport fair Saturday, May 2, at the Logandale Post Office to help U.S. citizens prepare for international travel.

Appointments are not required, but customers are encouraged to arrive early. Applicants will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. A cut-off time may be necessary if wait times exceed event hours.

The fair will be held at the Logandale Post Office, 3145 N Moapa Valley Blvd, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cut-off time for sign-ins is 12:30 p.m.

Passport photos are available at the event.

Application requirements

To apply for a passport, applicants must have a valid form of photo identification and proof of citizenship.

Customers should fill out forms ahead of time to speed up the process. Application forms and information on costs can be found at usps.com/passport or travel.state.gov/passport.

Fees and payment

Passport fees for adults 16 years and older are $130 payable to the Department of State for the application fee and a separate payment of $35 to the Postal Service for its processing fee. For persons under 16, the total cost is $100 to the Department of State and a $35 processing fee to the Postal Service.

Passport cards for adults 16 years and older are $30 and $15 for persons under 16.

The Postal Service also offers a passport photo service at a cost of $15.

The application must be paid by check or money order. Credit or debit cards, as well as cash or checks, may be used to cover the cost of photos and acceptance fees.

Identification and citizenship proof

Proof of identification may include items such as a current or previous U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship or a current and valid driver’s license, government ID or military ID. The identification must contain a signature and a photograph.

A photocopy of the identification — front and back — must be submitted with the passport application. The post offices will offer photocopy service for an added fee.

Proof of citizenship includes a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship, and an expired passport.

Children under 16

Both parents or guardians must authorize the issuance of a child’s passport. The best way to give consent is for both parents or guardians to go with the child when applying.
