LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released more details following a shooting turned barricade incident in downtown Las Vegas last week.

Las Vegas police arrested George Barrios, 39, after a reported disturbance and hours-long standoff on Tuesday, April 21, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, the incident began around 4:55 p.m. when neighbors reported Barrios acting erratically, claiming to be Jesus, trying to grab a neighbor’s bag, banging on doors, and throwing and breaking items.

Witnesses said he had displayed similar behavior for weeks.

When officers contacted Barrios, he allegedly pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at them, prompting an officer-involved shooting in which two rounds were reported.

Barrios then barricaded himself as SWAT and crisis negotiators worked for hours to get him to surrender.

Multiple witnesses and officers said Barrios made suicidal statements and urged police to shoot him.

Barrios was taken into custody at about 10:30 p.m. with the help of a K-9 and less-lethal tactics, then treated at UMC for dog-bite injuries and a minor impact injury.

Police said they recovered a Rapture GF9 handgun from the apartment and that records indicate Barrios is a prohibited person and convicted felon in California.

He was booked and faces multiple charges, including four felony counts of assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and a misdemeanor property-destruction charge.

Court records show he remains in custody with bail set at $75,000.
