LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — 999 Las Vegas Spirit Airlines employees will be laid off, according to a document.

Spirit sent a “WARN Notice of Layoff and Closure at Spirit Airlines” to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation and to the City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. It says the airline will permanently cease operations at Harry Reid Airport and lay off the employees on Saturday.

The document says this includes 149 ALPA-represented at 779 AFA-represented workers. Officials say they did not provide earlier notice because they were pursuing financing during Chapter 11, but later faced rapidly worsening conditions. The letter cites fuel price increases.
