LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — More than a dozen beagles rescued from a research facility in Wisconsin have arrived at a rescue in Las Vegas.

The Southern Nevada Beagle Rescue Foundation received 16 dogs today. These dogs are some of the 2,000 beagles from the Ridglan Farms breeding and research facility.

The facility is accused of mistreating the dogs. A special prosecutor found the facility was performing eye procedures on the dogs that did not meet veterinary standards.

Ridglan Farms denies the allegations but agreed to give up its breeding license to avoid prosecution on felony animal mistreatment charges.

The local beagle rescue says the dogs they received are about 9 months to 5 years old. The goal is to get them into forever homes, but the rescue team is starting with making sure the dogs are healthy first.

“Just doing a once over on them, making sure health overall, heart, lungs sound good, vitals normal, getting them vaccinated, scanning their microchips, kind of all the things,” said Charlotte Pulliam of Enterprise Animal Hospital.

About 1,500 of the 2,000 beagles rescued from Ridglan Farms are going to other major rescues in Alabama and Florida.
