NORTH LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — North Las Vegas leaders buried a time capsule at City Hall to commemorate the city’s 80th anniversary, sealing away items meant to represent 2026 and be reopened in 2046.
The capsule is slated to be opened on the city’s 100th anniversary.
Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, who helped shovel dirt at the ceremony, said she included a letter addressed to the future mayor in 2046. In it, she highlighted the city’s resilience and urged future leaders to continue the growth underway.

“I wanted the future mayor to know how resilient the city is and will continue to be and that they inherited something wonderful and amazing,” Goynes-Brown said.
The mayor also pointed to long-term plans for a downtown core she hopes will be transformed over the next two decades into a walkable community with shops, restaurants and public gathering spaces, including an amphitheater.
“Twenty years from now, our downtown core is going to be phenomenal,” she said. “A walkable community with all the amenities that a downtown could have.”
Items placed inside the capsule include newspaper clippings, photographs, master planning documents and a development plan covering 2025 to 2030, city officials said.
