LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police were responding Wednesday morning to a reported knife threat that escalated into a barricade situation in the northwest valley.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called around 10 a.m. to the 3200 block of North Michael Way near Cheyenne Avenue and Rancho Drive after a report of a man who threatened another person with a knife.

Police said officers contacted the armed individual, but he refused to comply with orders to exit an apartment.

LVMPD said the situation was deemed a barricade, and SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.

Police urged the public to avoid the area due to a large law enforcement presence. No additional information was immediately released.
