LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Students at Matt Kelly Elementary lined up to ring the old school bell one last time to mark the end of classes on the old campus and the start of a new chapter.

The day marked the end of a building that has stood since 1960, serving generations of parents and grandparents.

The demolition begins in June. Students will spend a year at another campus while crews build a state-of-the-art, two-story replacement.

“We know the impact this is going to have on our students to be in a state-of-the-art school where they have everything up-to-date to make sure that they have the best that all that everyone has, they’re going to have those opportunities as well,” said Sherence Sathekge, assistant principal.

The new campus is scheduled to open during the 2027-2028 school year.
