Gov. Joe Lombardo was present for the activation alongside Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson, LVCVA President Steve Hill and Department of Reclamation Regional Director Genevieve Johnson.
“Las Vegas is celebrating America 250 all summer long and this activation becomes a spectacular addition,” Hill said.
“Built during the depths of the great depression, this reclamation dam and many others put thousands to work, powered the growth of the southwest and became a symbol of resilience that still inspires us today,” Johnson said.
“This was a miracle when it was built and it remains an important staple, a miracle even today, in everything we do here,” Gibson said.
The display will be up through the Fourth of July.
Hill said through June and July, there will be firework shows on Saturday to entertain visitors as the country inches closer to 250 years of independence.
