LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas nonprofit, Assisting Lives, donated about 350 life jackets to Lake Mead National Recreation Area to help visitors stay safe on the water this summer.
The jackets will be available at free life jacket loaner stations at popular beaches and boat launches on Lakes Mead and Mohave.
Visitors can borrow U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets and return them after enjoying water activities.

Park officials say every drowning death at Lake Mead has involved someone not wearing a life jacket. They also warn that pool toys like water wings and inner tubes are not approved substitutes and are not allowed at Lake Mead NRA.
Visitors are urged to wear properly fitted life jackets with working zippers and clasps whenever they’re on the water.
Officials also remind boaters that vessels must have one life jacket for each person on board. Children under 12 must wear a life jacket at all times, and life jackets are required to be worn by anyone on Lake Mohave.
