WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (FOX5) — The Athletics reinstated first baseman Nick Kurtz from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Max Muncy to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced Saturday.

Kurtz returns from thumb injury
Kurtz was placed on the injured list July 10 with a right thumb capsule sprain, the second IL stint of his career. In 2026, he is hitting .266 (89-for-334) with 15 doubles, one triple, 20 home runs, 66 RBI, and 76 walks.
He ranks second in the majors in walks and on-base percentage (.405), tied fifth in RBI, 12th in OPS (.902), and tied for 12th in go-ahead RBI.
Kurtz won American League Player of the Month for May, his fourth career monthly award, and was named the AL All-Star starting first baseman in Philadelphia — his first career All-Star selection. He is the 2025 unanimous AL Rookie of the Year.
Muncy optioned to Las Vegas
Muncy, 23, appeared in two games with the A’s in his second stint with the club this season, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. The right-handed hitter is batting .362 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 12 games at Triple-A, which included a rehab assignment from May 30 to June 7 while on the A’s injured list.
