LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue personnel rescued two people stranded on an island in the Colorado River on Saturday night after their jet skis experienced mechanical issues.

The rescue operation was conducted around 11 p.m. Saturday near Telephone Cove on the Colorado River, north of Laughlin.

Two people were reported overdue by their family and were last seen riding on jet skis headed northbound on the river from the cove.

Laughlin resident patrol units responded to the scene and began searching the areas they could access by ground. Due to the many coves that are inaccessible and the vast search area, LVMPD Search and Rescue was notified and requested to assist.

Rescue operation

Search and rescue personnel aboard AIR1 responded to the area and began searching for the subjects. They were located on an island north of Telephone Cove after a short air search.

Two search and rescue officers were inserted nearby via hover step.

Both people were in good health and said they had mechanical issues with the jet skis, resulting in them becoming stuck on the island.

They were extracted via two double up hoists with the two search and rescue officers, transported to Bullhead City airport and transferred to Laughlin resident patrol officers.
