LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Athletics launched a community partnership with the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District on Monday, hosting a story time event at the West Las Vegas Library.
The event featured team mascot Stomper, broadcaster and former pitcher Dallas Braden, and former player Tony Kemp, who read “Dino Baseball” to dozens of children and their families. The 90-minute program ran from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and included puppets, singing and interactive activities.
“Here at the West Las Vegas Library today, we are launching our partnership with the A’s,” said Kelvin Watson, executive director for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. “They’re going to be delivering today a special story time.”

The event marks an early effort by the Athletics to establish connections in Las Vegas ahead of the team’s planned move to the city in two years.
“For us, it’s more than just what we do on the field,” said Stephanie James, senior director of community for the Athletics. “Off the field, it’s just as important. And so, to be able to start off our week here in Vegas, I’m reading with you all. It’s such a special treat.”
Braden said reading programs offer a way to connect with the community.
“I think reading is so empowering,” Braden said. “Reading is what allows you to move on in life. Reading is what allows you to quite literally read your surroundings.”
He said community outreach will continue beyond media events.
“Even when the cameras aren’t rolling, there’s a lot of conversation and a lot of excitement about joining this community,” Braden said.
