LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — PWHL Las Vegas has added another piece to its blue line, signing defender Megan Carter to a two-year contract as the league’s newest expansion franchise builds its roster for its first season.
The Professional Women’s Hockey League announced Wednesday that Carter’s deal runs through the 2027-28 season. She becomes the sixth player signed by PWHL Las Vegas and the first addition during the league’s Phase 3 expansion signing window.

Carter, 25, spent last season with the Seattle Torrent, posting five points (one goal, four assists) in 30 games. The right-shot defender was acquired by Seattle with the 11th pick in the 2025 PWHL Expansion Draft and was credited by the league with a team-leading 37 hits. She scored the first goal by a defender in Torrent history on Jan. 20, the PWHL said.
Before her stint in Seattle, Carter played for the Toronto Sceptres after being selected 12th overall in the 2024 PWHL draft. A lower-body injury limited her rookie season, and she finished the regular season with one assist in 19 games, along with four postseason appearances.
Carter also brings international and college accolades. She won gold with Canada at the 2019 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship and was a two-time Hockey East Defender of the Year at Northeastern University.
PWHL Las Vegas previously announced two-year contracts for defenders Erin Ambrose, Mae Batherson and Kendall Cooper. The team has also added forwards Hayley Scamurra on a three-year deal and Hilary Knight on a one-year contract, according to the league.
The PWHL’s Phase 3 signing period runs through Friday at 3 p.m. Under the league’s expansion rules, each new team can sign up to three players on expiring contracts during this phase and carry up to eight total players by the end of the window, the PWHL said.
