PAHRUMP (FOX5) — A woman arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit and crash in Pahrump was pronounced dead the next day after she was found unresponsive in her holding cell at the Nye County Detention Center, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office said deputies saw a vehicle speeding at about 10:40 a.m. June 9 near Highway 160 and Loop Road when it crashed.

Authorities estimated the vehicle was traveling about 70 to 80 mph as it approached Basin Avenue, where it struck two other vehicles and became disabled, the sheriff’s office said. The driver ran from the scene but was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

The driver was identified as Stevie Miller, according to the NCSO.

Miller did not appear injured in the crash, officials said. A deputy conducted field sobriety tests and determined she failed. Miller was arrested and taken to Desert View Hospital for an injury evaluation, where a blood sample was taken, the sheriff’s office said.

She was then booked into the Nye County Detention Center on multiple charges.

At about 3 p.m. June 10, Miller was found on the floor of her holding cell and was unresponsive, the sheriff’s office said. Jail medical staff and deputies attempted life-saving measures and called Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue.

Miller was taken to Desert View Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, officials said.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, authorities said.
