LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Henderson Police explain the top violations they see on the roads and across the city from e-device riders and users, as officers plan more enforcement blitzes through summer break.
HPD recently shared details of its latest enforcement efforts ending early June, impounding 13 illegal dirt bikes and e-dirt bikes from city streets; many of these devices are being ridden by minors with no license.
“We just want to let parents and children know what is allowed on our roadways and what is not, and that’s just based on the fact that injuries occur on our roads. We’re not trying to be a downer with their new Christmas gifts, but we are certainly trying to keep our roadways safe and keep these unauthorized electric motorcycles off our city streets, parks, and trails, to preserve property as well as just to keep our kids safe,” said Sgt. Rich Paul of HPD’s traffic section.
Operating an unregistered device or driving without a valid license is a fine of $415.
Permitting a minor to operate an e-dirt bike is also a misdemeanor offense, resulting in a $415 fine; since last year, three parents have been cited for their kids on roadways, officials said.
Officers warn that these illegal devices will be towed off the roads.
Paul also explained some of the common road violations from various e-bike and e-scooter users, and fines for violactions:
- Failure to safely pass, overtake left side: $415 fine
- Failure to obey red light: $195
- Driving between vehicles: $195
Is your child’s device legal on the road? Paul tells FOX5 that an e-bike should be less than 750 watts and the decal should state the wattage; a legal device generally has working pedals.
If parents have questions about their child’s e-device and whether it is legal, HPD says to bring the device to them for answers.
