LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Interagency wildland firefighters continue suppression efforts on the Kane Springs and Grapevine fires burning south of Caliente in Lincoln County.
The Kane Springs Fire has burned approximately 14,000 acres and is 20% contained. The Grapevine Fire has burned approximately 13,000 acres and is 0% contained.

The Kane Springs Fire is burning in grass, brush and pinyon-juniper fuels approximately 17 miles southwest of Caliente. Firefighters continue to make progress securing and strengthening containment lines, particularly along the eastern portions of the fire, while mopping up hotspots and improving existing line.
The Grapevine Fire is burning in timber and rugged terrain within the Clover Mountain Wilderness Area southeast of Caliente. Fire behavior remains active, with running fire, torching and spotting observed in steep and difficult-to-access terrain. Crews continue to utilize aircraft, road systems and natural barriers as part of the suppression strategy.

Ground crews, engines, dozers, hotshot crews, helicopters and air tankers remain engaged on both incidents. Firefighters are scouting additional opportunities for containment, strengthening existing fire lines and utilizing terrain features, roads and previous burn scars to support suppression efforts.
Hot, dry and breezy weather will continue through midweek. Single-digit relative humidity and poor overnight recoveries will keep fuels critically dry and support active fire behavior during the afternoon and evening hours.
There are currently no evacuations in place. However, residents and travelers are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions and exercise caution while recreating or traveling in the area.
