LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas EMS crews collected bottled water today as part of an effort to help prevent heat-related 911 calls before they happen.

In 2025, 284 people died in Clark County from heat-related causes. Officials said more than a quarter of those deaths were among people experiencing homelessness, with most occurring during the peak summer months.

Water drive held at Sam’s Club

American Medical Response and MedicWest EMS turned an ambulance into a drop-off site for the “Fill the Ambulance” water drive.

Community members donated cases of drinking water, which will be distributed to the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and to people experiencing homelessness who are most at risk during extreme heat.

Crews, residents and community partners collected donations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sam’s Club on Arroyo Crossing Parkway.

AMR said “water seems simple, but often it can be the difference between life and death,” adding that distributing water now could help prevent emergency calls later this summer.
