LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The RTC is turning its Bonneville Transit Center into a cooling stop this summer, offering free water and sunscreen while teaching riders how to stay safe in triple-digit heat.
The agency said temperatures at some bus stops can reach 122 degrees, even hotter than the air temperature.
Of the RTC’s more than 3,700 stops, about half have shade.

The RTC said it invests $10 million a year to add shade at more stops, especially in high-traffic areas.
“We work with a ton of organizations to collect water, sunscreen, fans, really anything that our riders need to bear some of those extreme temperatures as they’re out there traveling in and around the valley,” said Mackenzie Coombs, an RTC spokesperson.
The RTC plans to be out weekly through September, not just at Bonneville Transit Center but also at some of its busiest bus stops around the valley.
