LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 66-year-old pedestrian has critical injuries after a crash in west Las Vegas, police say.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the crash happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive Friday. Police said it involved a 17-year-old driving a Mazda with a passenger and a pedestrian from Las Vegas.

Police said the driver traveled south on Torrey Pines, approaching Sahara Avenue in the left-turn lane. At the same moment, the pedestrian was crossing Sahara Avenue at Torrey Pines on the east side of the intersection from north to south.

Police said the crash happened when the driver of the Mazda made a left turn, and the front of the car hit the pedestrian. The pedestrian fell onto the roadway, and the driver made a controlled stop, according to police.

Police said the pedestrian was transported to UMC Trauma with critical injuries. The Mazda’s driver stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Police said the driver and passenger did not have any injuries.

This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
