LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported one traffic fatality last week, a decrease from four reported deaths the previous week.

So far in 2026, 69 people have died on valley roadways between Jan. 1 and Aug. 4, LVMPD shared in a tweet Tuesday.

According to LVMPD, the 69 fatalities recorded so far this year break down as follows:

  • Pedestrian: 31
  • Motorcycle/Moped: 18
  • Driver: 13
  • Passenger: 4
  • Electric Conveyance: 2
  • Bicyclist: 1

LVMPD identified the following as the top causal factors in traffic fatalities this year:

  • Pedestrian error
  • Failure to yield right of way
  • Excessive speed/failure to maintain lane

LVMPD urged drivers to slow down, stay focused, wear a seatbelt, and avoid driving impaired.
