LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 is learning more about the timeline of events leading to the construction of a new A’s stadium and future development on the Las Vegas Strip.

Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim, via correspondence on X, told FOX5′s Jaclyn Schultz that the iconic Tropicana Las Vegas could be demolished in October.

”Think October for the main event,” said Ballys Chair Soo Kim.

In a previous message on timing, the Ballys Chair told FOX5, ”Our team felt that this was the right time, post the peak season, to prepare to close the Trop. It’s been in the works for some time. This gives plenty of time to ready the place for the redevelopment and the start of construction,” Kim said.

No word from Bally’s on plans for a forthcoming property in place of the Tropicana. FOX5 spoke with Kim last spring on hopes for a new property to have a theme or homage to sports.

The Tropicana is closing on April 2 to the public. According to Bally’s executives, employees have been offered positions for locations on and off the Strip.

The casino’s marquees have been honoring employees.

The Tropicana Las Vegas marquees lit up on Tuesday morning in honor of its team members.

Bally’s officials told FOX5 that the gaming floor will close on April 2. Food and beverage departments are shutting down by noon.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred is confident the Oakland Athletics will be playing in Las Vegas starting in 2028.
