RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom in a dispute over the claim that their initiative petition violated the single-subject requirement.
The Coalition for Parents and Children alleged that their petition violated the rule because it considered multiple medical procedures, rather than being limited to just pregnancy or abortion.
Their petition would grant free choice for people in matters related to abortion, prenatal care, birth control and more.
The Supreme Court ruled that a lower court erred when it issued an injunction against the ballot.
The court said that everything listed in the petition was related to reproduction, and thus are all related subjects. They also said that the description of effect was legally sufficient, and that the initiative petition does not require an expenditure of funds.
