LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Two people are dead after a car crashed into a concrete barrier and burst into flames on Saturday in east Las Vegas.
At around 12:13 a.m., the collision occurred on East Sahara Avenue, east of the intersection with Voyage Cove. A preliminary investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department found that a Toyota Camry was traveling east on Sahara at a high speed.
Since Sahara ends east of Voyage Cove Road, a collision occurred when the Toyota failed to stop for the red and white warning signs and crashed through them. The Toyota then continued east and collided with a large concrete barrier, displacing it from its position.
Police determined that the Toyota also caught fire as it came to an uncontrolled stop. Clark County Fire Department arrived to extinguish the flames and pronounced both occupants of the Toyota dead.
“The driver and passenger deaths mark the 55th and 56th traffic-related fatalities in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section.”
