LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Residents have been asked to evacuate after a gas leak in the central Las Vegas Valley.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said they received a call just after 12 p.m. that a gas line had been struck at E. Washington Avenue and N. Bruce Street. Crews arrived five minutes later and confirmed a two-inch gas line strike, which they described as a “significant” incident.
LVFR said Washington Avenue has been closed between 18th Street and Bruce Street while repairs are being made. One resident in the area was asked to evacuate for their safety.
Southwest Gas confirmed a third party hit the line while digging.
“Safety is our top priority, and we are coordinating with first responders to make the area safe and to conduct necessary repairs,” Southwest Gas representatives said in a statement. “As a reminder, anyone who is planning a digging project must call 811 at least two working days before digging to prevent damaging underground utility lines.”
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
