LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) -Virgin Hotels Las Vegas has filed legal action, claiming the Culinary Union bargained in bad faith by engaging in unlawful “take it or leave it” negotiating.

National Labor Relations Board documents also say the Local Joint Executive Board scheduled a strike after canceling a meeting set for May 2. Around 700 union members are in a 48-hour strike at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

National Labor Relations Board documents also indicate that within the previous six months, the labor group threatened to retaliate against employees if they did not join or support the union.

“I think that’s nonsense. We have a track record at the Culinary of operating as a law-abiding union,” said Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge.

He added, “I think the reality is that this company has not been bargaining in good faith. They’ve been proposing zero wage increases for a full five-year contract from the beginning and they haven’t budged.”

The Culinary Union also says within the last 10 days, the Culinary and Bartenders Unions have proposed four meeting dates. Officials say Virgin Hotels said no to proposed meeting dates of May 6, May 7 and May 13. It says the company has agreed to meet on Tuesday, May 14.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas has not responded to FOX5 about the Culinary Union’s complaint about not offering any wage increase to employees.
