LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Aviators defeated the Sacramento River Cats, 11-8, in the finale of the six-game series before a crowd of 4,494 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
The Aviators improved to 3-3 in the second half (40-41 overall) and Sacramento dropped to 3-3 (47-34).
Las Vegas right-hander Rober Dugger recorded the victory. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed 5 hits, 4 runs, walked 4 and struck out 4 on 80 pitches (50 strikes).
The Aviators built a 7-3 lead after four innings and five players recorded multiple-hit games. Right fielder Colby Thomas was 3-for-4, HBP, SB, HR, 3 RBI, two runs scored. Designated hitter Jacob Wilson was 3-for-5, two doubles, run scored; center fielder Seth Brown was 3-for-5, RBI, run scored and shortstop Nick Allen was 2-for-5, double, 2 RBI, two runs scored.
Sacramento left-hander Carson Whisenhunt suffered the loss. He pitched 4.0 innings and allowed 8 hits, 7 runs , walked 2 and struck out 4 on 79 pitches (50 strikes).
River Cats designated hitter Jerar Encarnacion was 2-for-3, walk, two home runs, 3 RBI and second baseman Brett Auerbach (1-for-3, walk) hit a grand slam in the eighth inning.
Las Vegas will continue the nine-game homestand and host the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in a three-game series from Monday-Wednesday, July 1-3.
Fireworks shows are scheduled for Tuesday, July 2 at 7:05 p.m. and the homestand finale on Wednesday, July 3 at 6:05 p.m.
