LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The trial for the man accused of killing Lesly Palacio in 2021 will be delayed as his attorneys take the case up to the Nevada Supreme Court.
Matthew Pennell, the attorney representing Erick Rangel-Ibarra, 31, announced the plan to file a writ with the state’s highest court during a Thursday morning hearing. The trial was previously set for Aug. 24, but that date has since been vacated.

The writ has not yet been filed, but the attorney said he plans to do so in the next few weeks.
Ibarra is accused of murdering Palacio, who was initially reported missing around Aug. 29, 2020.
Her body was found nearly two weeks later near Valley of Fire State Park.
Rangel-Ibarra was arrested in Mexico in July 2024, nearly four years after the alleged murder. He was extradited to Las Vegas nearly a year later.
