LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – It took a while, around 15 years, but some retail buildings that never opened because of the housing crisis are finally renovated and open for business.
“It was just a shell. There weren’t any walls put up or anything until we came in here,” said Kim Boone with State Farm Insurance.
A State Farm Insurance office is one of a handful of businesses now open at The Monument at Calico Ridge retail center off Lake Mead. While the economy is still fragile, Kim Boone says the new office is an extension of a long-time office at Lake Mead and Boulder Highway.
“Just because of all the growth in Cadence and we have Calico Ridge and Lake Las Vegas. It’s just a great area. It’s growing. And now this place is really expanding as far as businesses. It’s a good place to be. Happy to be here,” said Boone.
Another new business at the development is Jamon, Jamon. Owner Rafael Salines-Catala says his Spain inspired food is made from scratch. He says the restaurant at the new location is two years in the making. Jamon, Jamon was previously at Sahara and Jones. He also talked about the area’s growth in deciding to relocate.
“A lot of housing going on around us. There is not too many openings of restaurants,” he said.
Elite Health and Fitness, another new business at the development, is not the typical place to get healthy.
“Everything we do here is infusing oxygen into the system. Whether it’s working out, Red Light therapy. We have EWOT which is exercise with oxygen therapy. And we’re doing superhuman protocols. Come in and let me explain more to you about what that is,” said Owner Denfield Gomes.
Jamon, Jamon is expected to open this Thursday. Other stores open right now include State Farm Insurance, a family practice doctor’s office and orthodontics office. Developers say a breakfast and coffee shop is expected to open in April, while a nail salon will open in May. Elite Health and Fitness will also be opening, as will a gluten free restaurant and a chicken and ribs business. An Italian restaurant bar and 24-hour gaming operation is expected to open in October.
