LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A woman is dead after being struck by a car while sitting in the road in Laughlin on Friday night.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the collision occurred around 11:09 p.m. on Needles Highway, south of Aha Macav Parkway, which is more than 100 miles south of Las Vegas.

Police determined that a 2013 Chevrolet Volt was traveling northbound on Needles Parkway, while a female pedestrian in dark clothing was sitting in the roadway. The driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but still struck her.

The woman – identified as a 24-year-old from Needles, California – was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical staff.

“The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The pedestrian’s death marked the 44th traffic-related death in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Fatal Detail,” LVMPD noted in a release.
