LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) -Some people in Lake Las Vegas wonder if someone blasting in the area is the cause of a bright flash and powerful boom that shook houses on Sunday.
On Friday, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue bomb squad officials told FOX5 they checked out the area around the abandoned Three Kids Mine. They also say they spoke with at least one person who heard the boom on Sunday and called others.
People in several Lake Las Vegas Neighborhoods said on Facebook they saw the flash and felt the boom. FOX5 has also talked to people who say their houses shook sometime after the Super Bowl.
Bomb squad officials say they have not ruled out fireworks or gunshots as a possible cause. They also wonder if the flash and boom were from a meteor entering Earth’s atmosphere.
FOX5 has reached out to Henderson City officials to determine whether any blasting permits have been issued around the Lake Las Vegas area. So far, we have not heard back.
There is a new housing development right across from the Three Kids Mine. Workers on scene Friday told FOX5 they are not doing any blasting work.
Some people in Lake Las Vegas report feeling booms for the last month or two.
