LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County celebrated 73 years as the “wedding capital of the world” Sunday with an anniversary party at the Las Vegas Ballpark.

The county clerk’s office invited couples who got married in Las Vegas to “Love at the Ballpark,” a night where about 130 couples renewed their vows before the Aviators’ game.

Anyone in the stadium could take part

The clerk said anyone inside the stadium could take part when the ceremony was broadcast, standing up in their seats, holding hands and repeating the words along with the officiant.

“We’re inviting everybody in the stadium to join hands, look into each other’s eyes, and declare their love to each other,” said Clark County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya. “We think it’s going to be a really special event.”

Goya said the event is a way to celebrate love, baseball and the city’s long history as a destination for weddings, and that events like this help keep Las Vegas the wedding capital of the world. Goya also presented a proclamation to Las Vegas Ballpark General Manager Chuck Johnson declaring the day Las Vegas Ballpark Day.

Organizers say there’s nothing more “Las Vegas” than renewing your vows between innings at a ballgame.

Couples share their stories

Thomas and Leesa Troiano, who live in Henderson, said they renewed their vows last year at the Westgate and decided to do it again this year at the ballpark.

“We just thought we would come out and celebrate all over again and enjoy it with a lot of people,” Leesa Troiano said.

Thomas Troiano said he’s a big baseball fan and has attended several Aviators games. “I can’t imagine anything better being at the ballpark with the person you love,” Leesa Troiano said.

Ricardo and Michelle Cruz, who live in Las Vegas and got married in the city, said the event fell on their wedding anniversary.

“We actually got married today, August 30th,” Ricardo Cruz said. “So it landed exactly on our anniversary.”

Both said they are Aviators fans and regularly attend games.

“Being married to Michelle has been just an absolute dream,” Ricardo Cruz said. “We have such adventures, so much fun together. It’s never a dull moment. It’s just been incredible.”

“This is the biggest, the best decision of my life,” Michelle Cruz said. “So many good things have come from this. I’m a better person, and the world is better in my view. Love is a great thing, and I never knew that until him.”
