RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Nevada Department of Education and the Nevada Department of Public Safety are reporting a data breach of SafeVoice Nevada.

They say the data breach was caused by a multistate cybersecurity incident of technology vendor Navigate 360.

The system is the state’s anonymous reporting system that connects students and families with help when they have concerns about school safety or student well-being.

The Department of Education and DPS are now working with state education leaders nationwide on the matter.

Navigate360 says SafeVoice remains fully operational and available.

“SafeVoice gives Nevada students a way to speak up when they are concerned about their own safety or the well-being of someone else, connecting those concerns with adults who can step in and help before harm occurs,” said Dr. Victor Wakefield, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “That trust is essential, and the compromise of sensitive information is unacceptable. We have pressed Navigate360 for answers, and we are working with state education leaders across the country to demand greater accountability and stronger protections for students. Nevada families deserve confidence that their information is secure, and we will continue taking action to protect that trust.”

“Protecting the safety of Nevadans is our highest priority, and that commitment extends to safeguarding sensitive information entrusted to programs like SafeVoice,” said George Togliatti, Director of the Nevada Department of Public Safety. “While the SafeVoice system remained operational throughout this period, any compromise of data is something we take extremely seriously. We are working closely with the Nevada Department of Education to keep the public informed, hold our vendors to the highest security standards, and maintain public confidence in this vital, life-saving tool.”

Navigate360 provided initial notification in the spring of this year that SafeVoice may have been affected by a criminal multistate cybersecurity incident between November 2025 and March 2026.

Earlier this month, SafeVoice notified NDE and DPS that an investigation revealed that around 10% of SafeVoice Nevada tips with personally identifiable information was compromised.
