LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Grapevine Fire has grown to an estimated 26,464 acres and is now 78% contained, according to Nevada Incident Management Team #4.

Firefighters continue to strengthen and secure containment lines as temperatures rise and humidity drops across the fire area.

Current operations

Crews are using both direct and indirect suppression tactics where heat remains, including securing containment lines, extinguishing hotspots, and addressing interior heat pockets. Suppression repair work is also underway, with firefighters and heavy equipment operators seeding disturbed areas with approved native seed mixes, mulching vegetative debris, restoring dozer lines and roadways, and continuing hand rehabilitation in areas where mechanized equipment cannot be used.

Weather and fire behavior

Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s across the fire area. Relative humidity may drop below 10%, and southerly to southwest winds are forecast to increase in the afternoon, producing elevated fire weather conditions. Unburned fuels — including grasses, drought-stressed shrubs, and pockets of pinyon-juniper — continue to pose a risk for flare-ups, short-range spotting, and rapid rates of spread, particularly on wind-aligned slopes.

Closures and public safety

Beaver Dam State Park remains closed due to ongoing firefighting operations and will stay closed until conditions allow for safe public access. Eagle Valley Reservoir has reopened to boating. Visitors and residents are asked to avoid the fire area and remain alert for firefighters, heavy equipment, and increased traffic along access roads.

Fourth of July fire safety

A Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory remains in effect through July 10 due to significantly drier-than-average fuel conditions that can support rapid fire growth, long-range spotting, and fires that are difficult to contain. The Great Basin is currently at Preparedness Level 4, reflecting high wildfire activity and heavy demand for resources across the region.

With the Fourth of July approaching, residents and visitors are urged to use extreme caution. Officials said critically dry fuels, low humidity, and forecast winds mean a single spark could quickly start a wildfire.
