LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A major road project along Van Wagenen Street in Henderson will bring another full intersection closure starting Monday, July 6, as crews begin building a new roundabout at Pacific Avenue, city officials said.

The intersection of Pacific Avenue and Van Wagenen Street is expected to close for about three weeks and is scheduled to reopen July 27, according to the city.

The work is part of a broader set of upgrades on Van Wagenen between Lake Mead Parkway and Greenway Road that includes new pavement, sidewalks, street lighting and bike lanes.

A smaller roundabout at Greenway Road and Van Wagenen Street is nearing completion after the intersection closed in June, officials said.

Nathan Enos, a quality control manager for the city of Henderson, said roundabouts can improve safety and traffic flow compared with traditional signalized intersections.

“We’re familiar that a roundabout is much safer for vehicular traffic, but it’s also safer for pedestrians that are crossing as well,” Enos said.

Drivers are urged to plan for delays and use alternate routes, including Atlantic and Basic avenues, during the closure, officials said.
