LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Dr. Jesus Jara is out as the Superintendent of the Clark County School District.

In an evening meeting on Feb. 22, the district’s Board of Trustees voted to accept his resignation. The board adjusted its agenda to make the vote the first item of business after a period of pre-scheduled public comment that ran for just over an hour.

“Allowing him to resign and giving him a quarter of a million dollars is not an acceptable outcome of this meeting,” one speaker said.

Another asked the board to vote “no,” and instead to terminate Jara for cause.

“He’s not the solution,” the speaker said. “And if he’s not the solution, he shouldn’t be in the job one day longer.”

A CCSD mother and former teacher in the district urged the board not to reward Jara with a “golden parachute.”

“Jesus Jara was never a teacher,” she said emphatically. “He doesn’t know what it takes.”

“He is a charlatan, he should be fired, and he should never be allowed to work in education again.”

Jara’s last day with the district is tomorrow. He will receive a one-time payment of $250,000.

The board voted 5-2 in favor of accepting the conditional resignation. It immediately moved on to discuss interim superintendent candidates.
