LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A groundbreaking ceremony happened Thursday morning for an 84-unit sober-living transitional housing community for women and their children.

Congresswoman Susie Lee and Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman were at the event alongside health care advocates, leadership from the WestCare Foundation and other local and state elected officials.

WestCare Nevada is a behavioral health and human services nonprofit that provides services in the domains of mental health and wellness, treatment and rehabilitation, criminal justice, veteran services, housing and transitional living and education and prevention.

According to a media release, it’s the first-of-its kind facility in Southern Nevada. Officials say the housing community will provide case management, peer recovery support, educational classes and wrap-around services for vulnerable residents.
