LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — It’s something AJ Stein never expected to happen. He woke up Sunday to the news that his business had been robbed.

“I’ve been a resident of this area. We’re in one of the safest pockets of Las Vegas. Definitely something I didn’t expect,” Stein said.

Stein got into the jewelry business five years ago, opening his Asset Appeal store on Flamingo Road in February.

Unfortunately, less than a year later he’s dealing with a break in.

Stein shared security video with FOX5, showing the thief smash through the store window with a sledgehammer just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

“He hit the front door a few times. He wasn’t able to get in, so he went straight to the side window,” Stein said.

“He realized that pretty much all the cases but two were emptied out. His attention went right back to these two show cases and these were destroyed. There was glass essentially everywhere throughout the store yesterday as we were cleaning up.”

Stein said the value of what was stolen is in the $7,000-$10,000 range, thankful that the burglar didn’t manage to get into the safe where the true valuables are.

The real expense in all of this, according to Stein, is the repairs to the store and now upgrading security measures to prevent this from happening again.

“We’re going to have custom fabricated metal gates going in. We’re putting in thicker windows. We’re putting in security film,” Stein said.

“Unfortunately, we realize that even in the nicest areas of Vegas, you’re still at risk to the same crime.”

Stein is also hopeful the community can help bring the thief to justice.

Specifically because of the clothing he was wearing at the time of the break in.

“It was a very specific Kyle Busch hoodie in black with a specific design to it.”

“Hopefully somebody recognizes the hoodie, somebody recognizes the frame, because again, it was a very specific outfit that he was wearing that he came in.”

Stein said the store will be closed for a few days as repairs are being made.
