LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Members of Culinary Workers Local 226 are once again preparing to hit the picket lines — this time they’re targeting the Downtown area.

Workers will gather on Fremont Street Friday morning for protests aimed at Circa, The Golden Nugget, and the Fremont Hotel and Casino. Union members plan to picket from 10 am until noon, and again from 5 to 7 pm.

Contract negotiations do continue with 16 resort-casinos. Culinary leadership tells FOX5 they hope they can reach a deal quickly.

”We’re hoping to get great contracts done. When companies have record profits, there needs to be record profits, record contracts for workers. But nobody wants a strike, nobody wants a strike, at the end of the day, we’re hoping to get these contracts settled,” said Ted Pappageorge, the union’s secretary-treasurer.

Local 226 inked historic deals with some major Strip properties in November, but some 4,700 members are still working without a contract. The union has set a strike deadline for 5 am next Friday, February 2.
