LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas valley man has destroyed his own driveways after he says a road project left them too steep to use.
Vinny Raucci chopped up both driveways at his Robindale Road property after he says crews created slopes so steep his vehicles would bottom out. The driveways had prevented him from moving a race car and trailer into the road. Raucci says crews removed part of the driveways for the road project. He says when crews put them back, they sloped them too steep.
Clark County officials say the driveways didn’t have permits in the first place. Raucci added them after buying the house. Raucci bought the property nine years ago with gates already installed. The county says the gates also don’t have permits and said a change of ownership doesn’t make something legal if it was illegal before the sale.
FOX5 asked Raucci to respond to a lack of permits.
“The county told me they’re not in the business of going around and giving fines out. That’s not what they’re about. They try to work with the public,” Raucci said.
Clark County works with permits, but after our first story aired, officials said a company did the actual road work. FOX5 reached out to the company and a contractor but received a “no comment,” and no phone calls back from the company.
Property owner plans dirt replacement
Raucci said he plans to haul the chopped-up concrete away and throw dirt down on his driveway so he can get his vehicles out.
“I just gave up,” Raucci said.
Raucci had poked fun on Facebook by posting a photo-shopped picture of him riding a skateboard on one of the sloped driveways. He told FOX5 the skatepark is now closed, with nothing able to go over the driveways until the concrete chunks are removed.
