LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Police arrested a 47-year-old man after he allegedly tried to lure a 13-year-old girl to his car as she walked to school Tuesday morning in the northeast valley.

Kendrick Weatherspoon was taken into custody on attempted kidnapping and luring charges following the incident near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

Just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, the 13-year-old girl was walking to school when she passed a bar where police said Weatherspoon was sitting in his car. Police said Weatherspoon tried to get the girl to come over to his car and opened the door.

Girl runs to safety at grocery store

The girl told police that despite being scared she would be hit by oncoming traffic, she ran across the street to a Smith’s grocery store. Two workers in the store helped the girl and called the police after she ran for safety.

Police took Weatherspoon into custody. He denied trying to lure the young girl.

Metro police initially released a photo of Weatherspoon’s car on Tuesday after his arrest. A parent from a nearby school said she had seen the vehicle in the area before.

“It’s not a car you’d forget. Not with the rims, not with the way that it looks. It stands out,” the parent said.

Suspect has lengthy criminal history

Weatherspoon has a lengthy criminal history, including a previous arrest for sex trafficking of an adult in 2021. Weatherspoon is also banned from Nevada’s casinos.

He is due back in court on Monday.
