LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Nine years after the nation’s deadliest mass shooting, Las Vegas is gathering once again on Thursday to honor the victims, and support the survivors as the community continues to heal.

On October 1, 2017, a mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival on the Las Vegas Strip killed 58 people and injured hundreds. Two additional victims passed away due to injuries sustained that night in 2019 and 2020. This would bring the official death toll to 60.

Events

Clark County and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officials will gather Thursday morning as part of the 1 October Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony. The event will take place at the Clark County Government Center starting at 7:30 a.m.

Later that evening, City of Las Vegas officials will gather at the Community Healing Garden downtown for a ceremony featuring a tolling bell, candle lighting, and the reading of the victims’ names.

Additionally, the Golden Knights will be hosting their annual blood drive at City National Arena from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Resiliency & Justice Center

The Resiliency & Justice Center (formerly the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center) offers support and resources for anyone struggling with the ongoing impacts of the shooting.

The resource was established by Clark County and partners in the wake of 1 October, providing free, trauma-informed care and resources for anyone affected by mass violence.
