LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced that it has made an arrest in connection to a death from a 2023 fight over a pet.
On June 11, 2023, at approximately 5:16 p.m., LVMPD dispatch received a call in reference to an unresponsive man on the 3900 block of Maryland Avenue. Arriving officers located the victim, later identified as 69-year-old Larry Vargas, outside of a residence.
Medical personnel responded and transported Vargas to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead. According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that Vargas had been in a physical altercation with Roman Ramirez, 51, over a pet. The homicide section was notified and took over the investigation.
Later that day, Ramirez was located and arrested. Due to the evidence at the time and pending the Clark County Coroner’s investigation, Ramirez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for battery resulting in substantial bodily harm on an elderly person. The coroner’s office ruled the case a homicide on Feb. 8.
The criminal apprehension team located Ramirez, who was currently out on bail, and arrested him on Feb. 22. He was re-booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the new charge of open murder.
Ramirez has an appearance in Clark County Justice Court scheduled for Feb. 29.
