LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said a 20-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday morning near downtown.
Police said that he was riding a black 2010 Yamaha R1 at a high rate of speed around 5:22 a.m. at North Maryland Parkway south of East Bonanza Road. Evidence at the scene and witness statements say he approached a curve in the roadway and failed to negotiate it.
Police say he struck the east curb of Maryland.
“The male rider was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced deceased by responding emergency medical personnel,” Metro said.
The rider’s death marks the 30th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2024. The motorcyclist was from Las Vegas.
Police say this collision remains under investigation.
