LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — While much of the attention at Las Vegas Raiders training camp has focused on the quarterbacks, a pair of rookie cornerbacks has emerged as a position group to watch.
Fourth-round pick Jermod McCoy entered the draft touted as a top-ten talent, but a knee injury caused his stock to drop, raising concerns among teams about both his availability this season and his long-term outlook. The Raiders said they have a plan for McCoy going forward. So far in training camp, he has missed only one day.

McCoy on his recovery and progress
McCoy said the process with the team’s medical staff has gone well.
“Yeah, I think it’s been a great process with them, from the day I came in to now, the way I feel is just so much better. AG, all the guys in there, they’ve just been pouring into me and they got me right,” McCoy said.
He also described his progression on the field.
“First day out there I was a little tired, but I could see myself progressing more and more daily with my stamina and all that and just getting into football shape. Pre-snap stuff, technical things just getting back into all that,” McCoy said.
McCoy has received reps with both the first and second team defense during camp.
Masses making his case
Fifth-round pick Hezekiah Masses, also known as Zeke, has also drawn the attention of the coaching staff. Masses said he has something to prove.
“I’m trying to take their head off, that was a big issue, they said I can’t tackle, so I’m going to show them. I’m going to show them I’m very physical, I can do everything,” Masses said.
He said he is looking forward to the preseason opener.
“I’m just super excited, it feels so unreal, I’m just excited and happy for the opportunity, I’m just ready to play Thursday for the game,” Masses said.
Rookies push each other
Since being drafted, McCoy and Masses have developed a bond, competing alongside rather than against each other.
“That’s my boy, we came in together, we got the same locker room, we’re right next to each other. We talk to each other every day,” Masses said.
McCoy said the two push one another on the field.
“Me and Zeke talk about the stuff that we see, try and coach each other up on things we see. Me and Zeke we’re real similar with our mindsets, we both want to be the best, so I think two rookies coming in and doing that is something, it’s hard to find that for real,” McCoy said.
Public practice Tuesday at Allegiant Stadium
The Raiders will hold a public practice at Allegiant Stadium on Tuesday. Tickets are $5, with all proceeds benefiting the Raiders Foundation. It will be the final practice before the preseason opener Thursday.
